Bio:
Dr Alison Skene is a graduate of the University of Adelaide medical school, where she first developed an interest in pathology and research and completed a B Med Sc honours degree. In Melbourne since 1993, she undertook registrar training in anatomical pathology at Monash Medical Centre, Austin and Northern Hospitals, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1999, followed by a fellowship in cytopathology at Victorian Cytology Service. She has worked as a consultant at Monash Medical Centre and Austin Health, reporting a broad range of surgical and medical histopathology and cytopathology, and developing expertise in the pathology of medical renal disease. She is responsible for the medical renal biopsy service at Austin, which includes related special techniques such as immunohistochemistry. Recently she spent a six month sabbatical in Canada, investigating the molecular pathology of transplantation. Her interests also include cytopathology, postgraduate teaching and quality improvement through innovation and close clinical cooperation.
