Bio:
Dr Niall Swan is a Consultant Histopathologist at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin and an Associate Clinical Professor at University College Dublin School of Medicine. He is a 1991 graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and after post-graduate training in internal medicine he moved to the USA where he completed a residency in anatomic pathology and a fellowship in cytopathology at the Mallory Institute of Pathology and is board certified in both. He was appointed to the faculty of Boston University Pathology Department and as a staff pathologist at Boston Medical Center before returning to Ireland in 2003 as a Consultant Histopathologist at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin prior to moving to his current position in 2011. Dr Swan is a founding member of the Faculty of Pathology working group responsible for the implementation of the National Quality Improvement Programme in Histopathology and recently completed a diploma in Leadership and Quality in Healthcare at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He is also the lead pathologist for the national neuroendocrine tumour programme based in St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin, which is accredited as a centre of excellence by the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.
